REPEEV KHUTOR

Iron IIF-Of
Fall, August 8, 1933
Russia, Astrakhan region
One stone weighing 12.35 kg

The meteorite fell on the territory of the N.K. Krupskaya collective farm, where later an early rocket launching pad was built. The meteorite fall was in the center of the village (khutor) of Repeev between the barns and kindergartens, within 30 m of them. The meteorite was found in a shallow 50 cm hole by a boy named Alexey Sakhnov.

"Gubin, Repeev's blacksmith, did a bad thing for Science: he chopped up the meteorite, chiseled it, and finally drilled a deep hole into it. Why did Gubin do this? He should have known that stones and iron falling from the sky have a scientific meaning: he could not seriously consider that his "explorations" could aspire to scientific meaning. What did he achieve by his "experiments"? Smith Gubin damaged a subject of very important scientific meaning, and worse, the subject is government property. Smith Gubin allowed himself not only foolish action, but an anti-socialist act in which there were personal tendencies. Let us not follow this bad example and, when we find a meteorite, contribute it all to the scientific organizations!"

L.A. Kulik, 1933.
